My backflow test notice from City of Burnaby: what do I do, and by when?
The rule
Within 10 days of the test, as the City's test report form instructs. Source: City of Burnaby Backflow Prevention Assembly Test Report: “TEST REPORT MUST BE SUBMITTED NO LATER THAN 10 DAYS FOLLOWING TESTING”. Plumbing Bylaw 11148 s.13(6) reads “not less than 10 days following completion of the field test”.
Cross Connection Control, City of Burnaby confirmed it in writing on 2026-09-22: “You are able to email the completed test.”
Worth knowing: The largest authority in BC that takes reports directly from the tester. The department sends an automatic acknowledgement when an email arrives, and says it replies further only if there is a problem — so the acknowledgement is the receipt.
What to do, in order
- Find the date that starts the clock: the day of the test. The clock does not start until the test is done.
- Book a certified backflow tester for every device listed on the notice.
- Make sure the tester's report reaches City of Burnaby (crossconnectioncontrol@burnaby.ca) inside the window. Keep a copy.
