- Calgary — Within 5 days of the test

City of Calgary · Alberta
Deadline: Within 5 days of the test; within 2 business days if the device failed and was not repaired at once. (Water Utility Bylaw 40M2006, s.39(1)(a) and s.39(2))
How a report gets there: The tester enters the report in the City's SAMS portal.
How often: On installation and annually afterwards.
The duty is the customer's, not the tester's. A device that is not in good working order must be repaired or replaced within 5 business days of the City receiving the report (s.39(3)). The City's programme page gives both 5 days and, in a collapsed panel, 30 days; the bylaw says 5.

How a report gets there: A certified cross connection control specialist reports the test on the City's online test report form.
How often: Annually.

Seattle Public Utilities · Washington
Deadline: Proof of a passing test within 30 days of SPU's original notice — after that SPU charges $105 per backflow preventer. (SPU Director's Rule FIN-220.1, Customer Charges (effective 24 January 2025))
How a report gets there: The tester enters the report in SPU's SAMS Tester Portal; the old report inbox closed on 17 August 2026.
How often: Annually.
SPU publishes no report deadline counted from the test. The 30 days are counted from its notice, and missing them costs money rather than breaking a bylaw.

Portland Water Bureau · Oregon
Deadline: Within 10 business days of the test. (Portland City Code 21.30.320; Oregon Administrative Rule 333-061-0070(16)(a))
How a report gets there: The tester emails the completed PDF test report to the Water Bureau, or posts it. The address is backflow@portlandoregon.gov.
How often: At least once a year.

Date every building at once
The free audit reads a building list with a mix of cities and returns each one's due date under its own rule. For a window that runs from the test, label the date: 100 Queen St W, Toronto, ON, tested 2026-09-18. An unlabelled date is read as the date of a notice, and we will not count a test window from it.
