My backflow test notice from Township of Langley: what do I do, and by when?

Get each device on the notice tested by a certified tester, and make sure the report reaches Township of Langley within 30 days of the day of the test. That is the whole duty, and it is the property owner's, not the plumber's.

The rule

Within 30 days of the installation anniversary date, or a date the Engineer assigns. In the Township of Langley's own words:

“submit a report to the Engineer in a form designated by the Engineer, from an Authorized Backflow Prevention Device Tester upon installation of the device and thereafter annually within thirty (30) days of the installation anniversary date, or on such annual date as assigned by the Engineer.”

Worth knowing: The Township also gates the TESTER: a Township business licence or the Engineer’s approval is required. A jurisdiction can be open and the tester still not permitted.

What to do, in order

Find the date that starts the clock: the day of the test. The clock does not start until the test is done.
Book a certified backflow tester for every device listed on the notice (annually).
Make sure the tester's report reaches Township of Langley inside the window. Reports go to backflow@tol.ca. Keep the confirmation, not only your sent copy.
