Medicine Hat backflow test deadline
Last year's Medicine Hat clients, reminded and booked with you.
C$15 per booked retest, nothing otherwise.
The rule, in City of Medicine Hat Environmental Utilities's words
“Passing test reports are to be submitted and paid for within (5) business days of the test. If a BFP fails a test, is immediately repaired or replaced, retested, and passes the second test, Testers must submit the passing report within five (5) business days of the second test. If a BFP fails a test, is not immediately repaired or replaced and retested OR does not pass the second test, Testers must submit the failed test report on the same day as the failed test.”
City of Medicine Hat Environmental Utilities, written answer of 9 Oct 2026, quoting the Registered Tester Application form, “BFP Testing, Reporting, & Related Responsibilities”
“Companies wishing to offer backflow prevention assembly testing services to customers in Medicine Hat must have a registered Tester with the City of Medicine Hat in the SwiftComply program.”
City of Medicine Hat, Cross Connection Control Program, “Backflow prevention testers”
“There will be an administrative charge of $8.00 CAD per BFP test submitted in SwiftComply. This charge will only be applicable to passing tests. Failed tests are not charged.”
City of Medicine Hat, Commercial Backflow Preventer Registered Tester Application, “Additional Information”
“report the results of the inspection and testing on the form prescribed by the General Manager to the General Manager within the time frame specified by the General Manager.”
Water Service Bylaw 2379, consolidation, s.28.1(a)(ii)
Where it goes: The registered tester submits the report under their own SwiftComply account; the City charges $8.00 per passing test submitted. Only single residential homes go by email, to Riskcontrols@medicinehat.ca on the Environmental Utilities PDF form.
How often: On installation, then annually at minimum; also after cleaning, repair or relocation.
Worth knowing: Tester-only: the City takes reports from the registered tester's own SwiftComply account, not from a third party, and charges $8.00 per passing test there. Registration needs a Medicine Hat business licence, $5,000,000 liability insurance naming the City, an AWWA CCC Specialist certificate, a yearly test-kit calibration certificate and a trade certificate. The City mails a reminder 40 days before each assembly's due date; non-compliance can mean the water is shut off (Bylaw 2379 s.28.1(d)(ii)).
